Where others have to say it: independent sources
An assistant trusts a claim more when someone other than you makes it. Registers, industry directories, review platforms, trade media and partners' sites are where that confirmation lives — and each should state the same facts as your own site.
Why is your own site not enough?
Because it is not independent. When an assistant compares three accountants, each of them says on their own site that they are experienced and reliable. What separates them is what other people say: the register confirms the company exists and since when, a directory lists the services, clients leave reviews, a trade publication quotes the owner.
Outfit7 put it in one line after its own work on AI visibility: engines "prioritize neutral collective wisdom over a brand's own marketing copy". The same holds for a firm of five people.
Which sources count in your field?
You already have the list: it is the "sources shown" column from your check. If the assistants keep citing the same directory, the same review platform or the same industry portal, those are the pages they trust for your kind of business. Be on them, with the right facts.
Typical third-party sources for a small European business:
| Source | What it confirms |
|---|---|
| Business register (for example AJPES in Slovenia) | That the company exists, its legal name, address and activity |
| Google Business Profile, Bing Places | Location, hours, reviews |
| Industry directories and associations | Which services you offer, to whom |
| Review platforms | What clients experienced |
| Chamber of commerce, partner and supplier sites | Who works with you |
| Trade media, local press, podcasts | What you know — in your own words, quoted by someone else |
Where to start
- Correct what exists. Old addresses, closed branches and wrong service lists in directories are cheap to fix and often what the assistant repeats.
- Fill the gaps the assistants showed you. If competitors are named from a directory you are not in, apply.
- Link it together. Put your official profiles in the
sameAslist of your structured data, and link back to your site from each profile, so the assistant can tell they all describe one company. - Earn one piece of coverage per quarter. A client case in a trade publication, a talk, a quoted comment. One real article does more than ten paid listings.
What to avoid
Fake reviews, bought "Top 10" placements on sites nobody reads, and press releases that say nothing new. They either do not help or, once noticed, damage the trust you are trying to build.
